My friend wants me to glue his delaminated back together. The outside laminate came apart from the inner laminate around the binding. Now the back shows a milky white finish on about 50% of the back. Is from moisture getting under the finish? Do have to remove the finish and start over?
Thanks,
Clinton

Yes it's probably from moisture. I haven't had much luck at fixing this, but it probably delamed from getting wet in the first place. I would try gentle heat in a small test area and see if it helps.

I wouldn't do this job without getting the friend to understand that there are no guarantees. You may want to to it for friendship or practice, but a delaminated back is not and easy fix, nor is it something worth fixing at professional repair rates.

I wasn't charging anything, he's just a good guy with no money. I glued up the back with two part epoxzy. Now I'm thinking about filling in the gap between the binding and the back plate with some super glue. The back seemed to pull or shrunk all the way around leaving a gap and I wanted to seal off any further moisture. I'm going to try that Blush Eraser. It's a Yamaha 460 or something, not an expensive guitar, but he likes it wants to try to perserve it a few more years. Clinton
